The Carpinteria Warriors are taking a road trip to take on the Santa Maria Saints at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Carpinteria has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Santa Maria will arrive with nine straight wins.
Carpinteria's last matchup with Hueneme could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Friday. Carpinteria came up short against Hueneme, falling 7-1. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Warriors, who fell 3-1 when the teams last met back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, while Santa Maria put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Orcutt Academy. Santa Maria blew past Orcutt Academy 14-0. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Jordan Medina and Dominic Martin made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Medina tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Martin kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits Medina has allowed since back in May of 2024. At bat, Medina went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI, while Martin went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits Martin has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Julius Medina was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-4. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Alex Ybarra, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Santa Maria hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive contests.
Santa Maria's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Carpinteria, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
