The Cabrillo Conquistadores came tearing into Saturday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Arvin by a score of 36-23. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 25 to 9 on the offensive boards, as Cabrillo did.
Cabrillo's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angeliyah Gonzalez, who scored 10 points along with 3 steals. Gonzalez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now stole two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Natalie McCune, who scored 6 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.
When it comes to explaining why Arvin lost, one person who can't be blamed is Roxana Fernandez. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. The match was Fernandez's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Emily Soto was another key contributor, scoring 1 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Cabrillo's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Arvin, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.
Cabrillo will be playing in front of their home fans against Nipomo at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Arvin's road trip will continue as they head out to face El Diamante at 6:30 p.m. on December 5th. El Diamante will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 404th, while Arvin is ranked 167th).
