The Laney Buccaneers will venture away from home to face off against the Midway Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Laney's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Midway's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Laney proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by seven) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Sun Valley 3-2.
Laney's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Carston Wedemeyer, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Midway was able to grind out a solid victory over Greenfield on Tuesday, taking the game 5-1.
Harry Johnson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Tanner Williams was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted over his last ten contests. Carson Tew was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Laney pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Midway, their record is now 10-5.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Laney has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. However, it's not like Midway struggles in that department as they've averaged .499. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
