Paine Mountain dropped down to 3-6 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 10-3 to the Bellows Free Academy Bullets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Bellows Free Academy this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 back in April.
As for Bellows Free Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.
For Bellows Free Academy's part, Ben Stevens and Dylan Sicard made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Stevens tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Sicard pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Stevens got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Sicard went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Levi Rabtoy looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Mason Sanders and Teddy Colling did most of the damage at the plate: Sanders went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run, while Colling went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Billy Sheehan, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI.
Coming up, Paine Mountain will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Blue Mountain at 4:30 p.m. As for Bellows Free Academy, they will challenge Enosburg Falls at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Hornets have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
