After flying high against the Galeton Tigers on Wednesday, the Smethport Hubbers came back down to earth. Smethport took a 44-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Port Allegany. The matchup was a 23-23 toss-up at halftime, but Smethport was outscored by Port Allegany in the second.
Smethport's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elizabeth Hungiville, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Hungiville is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn Goodman, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Kayleigha Dowell continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Port Allegany, scoring 21 points along with five steals. Dowell continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Moses, who scored eight points along with six steals.
Smethport's defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-8. As for Port Allegany, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Smethport will finish 2023 at home by hosting Otto-Eldred at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Otto-Eldred will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Port Allegany and Randolph will round out the year against one another at 4:15 p.m. on Friday at.
