Meyersdale is 1-9 against North Star since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Meyersdale Red Raiders will stay at home for another game and welcome the North Star Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Meyersdale suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Monday. They took a serious blow against Windber, falling 51-22. While losing is never fun, Meyersdale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 510th, while Windber is ranked 221st).
Despite their defeat, Meyersdale saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Laurel Daniels, who scored seven points along with two blocks, was perhaps the best of all. Jessica Daughton was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Meanwhile, North Star's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by Berlin Brothersvalley at home and fell 54-18.
Meyersdale has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for North Star, their loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-11.
Meyersdale came up short against North Star in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 54-46. Thankfully for Meyersdale, Grace Metz (who scored 18 points along with six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
