Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Jedd Scott and Cole Johnson Lead Southern Christian to Victory

Southern Christian had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past the First Assembly Christian Lions with a 50-45 win on Tuesday. The team ran away with 36 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the victory.

Southern Christian was led to victory by Cole Johnson and Jedd Scott. Johnson dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards, while Scott went 5 of 10 on his way to 15 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Scott is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Decker, who posted eight points.

Southern Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Despite the defeat, First Assembly Christian had strong showings from Garrison Williams, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds, and Bryce Sasser, who put up 17 points. That was a full 37.8% of First Assembly Christian's points, marking the third time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points.

Southern Christian's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for First Assembly Christian, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Christian will face off against Ezekiel Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Ezekiel Academy will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Southern Christian surely won't give up without a fight. As for First Assembly Christian, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the First Assembly Christian Lions challenge the Trinity Christian Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on January 14th. First Assembly Christian is facing Trinity Christian at the right time seeing as Trinity Christian is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
