After flying high against KIPP Atlanta Collegiate on Monday, Creekside came back down to earth. The Creekside Seminoles lost 14-8 to the Banneker Trojans on Tuesday. Tobias Stephens was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Stephens was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, TAKEEVIUS THORTON and KALEB NOEL stepped up to the plate in a big way. THORTON scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while NOEL scored a run and stole five bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those five stolen bases gave NOEL a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lawrence Wilder, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Even though they lost, Creekside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Banneker only posted a batting average of .185.
Creekside's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Banneker, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Looking ahead, Creekside is taking a road trip to face off against Hapeville Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hapeville Charter knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Creekside likes a good challenge. As for Banneker, they will welcome KIPP Atlanta Collegiate at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
