Football Recap: Bishop Amat Starts Season with Victory at Home + How To Watch

Bishop Amat took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 42-14 win over the St. Paul Swordsmen. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Lancers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 45th, while the Swordsmen are ranked 167th).

Ryan Salcedo had a dynamite game, rushing for 220 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 62 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bishop Amat was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Paul only rushed for 108 rushing yards.

Bishop Amat didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Isaac Pichardo, Mason Ramos, and Brandon Billups picked up one apiece.

St. Paul's loss came despite strong showings from Gabriel Castaneda and Kaleb Lauago. Castaneda threw for 194 yards and one TD on only 16 passes, while Lauago picked up 84 receiving yards and one score. The Swordsmen also got help from Gavin Lannon, who showed off his sure hands for 84 receiving yards.

Bishop Amat has already played their next contest, a 38-10 defeat against Oak Hills on the 28th. As for St. Paul, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Mission Viejo at 7:00 p.m.
