The Winside Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 11th straight loss. They took a serious blow against Tri County Northeast, falling 54-19. Winside was down 42-14 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Despite the loss, Winside saw an underclassman step up: Ellie Topp scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Winside struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Tri County Northeast racked up 13 assists.
Rhyanne Mackling had a dynamite game for Tri County Northeast, scoring 20 points along with five steals. Mackling hasn't dropped below three steals for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylinn Mitchell, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Winside's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Tri County Northeast, their win bumped their record up to 4-10.
Winside will head out on the road to challenge the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Osmond/Randolph focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 37 on Saturday. As for Tri County Northeast, they will square off against the Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Homer focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Saturday.
