High school football rankings: Corner Canyon jumps a dozen spots in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 after beating IMG Academy

No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) and No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) both won over the weekend, setting up the 14th matchup of top-ranked teams in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings since 2000. Fans will have to wait an additional week for the highly-anticipated showdown as both are off this week and face each other Sept. 6 and are both idle this week.

Mater Dei opened the season with a 42-25 win over Centennial (Corona, Calif.). Oregon-bound running back Jordon Davison rushed for 122 yards and a score while the defense forced three turnovers. Dash Beierly completed 10 of 19 passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns in his Monarch debut. The 2025 Washington commit added 51 yards on the ground.

Bishop Gorman improved to 2-0 after erasing a 21-10 third quarter deficit against St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) to pull off an impressive 29-21 win. Melvin Spicer IV completed 12 of 17 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns to go with 78 yards rushing. The Gaels have now won 22 in a row. The last team to beat them? Mater Dei in 2022.

St. Thomas Aquinas moved up two spots to No. 9 after nearly beating the second-ranked Gaels.

Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) made this week's biggest jump, improving 12 spots to No. 6 after beating IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), 35-34. Four-star junior quarterback Helamen Casuga had another huge night completing 22 of 31 passes for 330 yards and four touchdowns. Five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles hauled in five receptions for 125 yards and three scores. 

IMG Academy dropped seven spots to No. 10.

St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) moved up one spot to No. 3 after beating Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.), 34-27. The Braves scored 14 unanswered points after trailing 27-20 in the third quarter and took the lead for good on a 71-yard touchdown run from sophomore running back Maliq Blackwell-Allen with 4:39 left.

Milton (Ga.) jumped two spots to No. 4 after taking down American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) 37-28. It was the Eagles' second consecutive win over a MaxPreps Top 25 opponent after beating No. 21 Buford (Ga.) to open the season.

Douglas County (Douglasville, Ga.) went from unranked to No. 18 after another dominant performance. The Tigers beat Jonesboro 48-8 and have outscored their first two opponents 90-15.

Mission Viejo (Calif.) and St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) join Douglas County as new teams to join the MaxPreps Top 25. MaxPreps Top 25 football rankings
