The Maxwell Panthers were the 41-23 winner over the Chester Volcanoes when they last played one another back in February of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Maxwell fell 40-29 to Chester on Friday. While losing is never fun, Maxwell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 953rd, while Chester is ranked 282nd).
When it comes to explaining why Maxwell lost, one person who can't be blamed is Emma Hendrix. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. The match was Hendrix's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Camila Hernandez, who scored seven points.
This is the second loss in a row for Maxwell and nudges their season record down to 2-3. As for Chester, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.
Maxwell won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Butte Valley at 10:30 a.m. on December 16th. Chester won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Burney at 4:30 p.m. on December 16th. Hopefully Burney focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
