The Helix Highlanders came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points) and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Granite Hills 46-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Helix has posted since December 23, 2023.
Helix can attribute much of their success to Jordan Lindsey, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Lindsey hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Michaelle Whyte was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with nine rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Granite Hills lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kerstena Tomika. Despite the final result, she scored 25 points. Tomika has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Yakob, who scored eight points.
Helix has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Granite Hills, they have fallen quite a ways from their 26-7 record last season and are now at 5-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Helix will take on Mount Miguel at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mount Miguel has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 3. As for Granite Hills, they will be playing at home against Grossmont at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grossmont is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road.
