Fruita Monument is a perfect 10-0 against Montrose since September of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats will head out to take on the Red Hawks at 3:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Montrose will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Fruita Monument extended their winning streak to eight on Saturday. The Wildcats blew past Heritage 11-1. 11 seems to be a good number for the Wildcats as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
The team relied heavily on Lexi Hulet, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Clara Denton Baleztena was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Fruita Monument kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.
Montrose came out on top against Bennett on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run second inning. The Red Hawks never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. The Red Hawks haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Bentley Schiller made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and five RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Isabelle Mott and Jaytli Cannizzo did most of the damage at the plate: Mott went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Cannizzo went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Arianna Mora, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Fruita Monument's record is now 13-3. As for Montrose, their record now sits at 12-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Fruita Monument hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Montrose struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Fruita Monument's way against Montrose when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Fruita Monument made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
