The Whittier Christian Heralds will head out on the road to face off against the San Gabriel Matadors at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Whittier Christian unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak last Tuesday. They fell 50-43 to La Serna. Whittier Christian has struggled against La Serna recently, as their matchup last Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Whittier Christian saw an underclassman step up: Jatniel Cabrera scored 24 points along with four steals. The contest was Cabrera's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Zoe Sanborn was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, San Gabriel's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 37-21 bruising from Azusa.
Whittier Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for San Gabriel, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.
Whittier Christian beat San Gabriel 42-34 in their previous meeting back in December of 2019. Will Whittier Christian repeat their success, or does San Gabriel have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
