Decatur Central has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Avon Orioles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Decatur Central will be strutting in after a win while Avon will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, Decatur Central beat Greenwood 57-46. Given Decatur Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Greenwood is ranked 249th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Decatur Central relied on the efforts of Kc Berry, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Ayden Lawson, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds. Berry is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Melakih Cunningham, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Avon has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a serious blow against Fishers on Friday, falling 70-38. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Avon in their matchups with Fishers: they've now lost four in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kendrick Dunmore, who scored six points along with eight blocks and six rebounds. He hasn't dropped below two blocks for five straight games. Rohan Pearson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five blocks.
Avon struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Decatur Central's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Avon, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Decatur Central hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 56.4 points per game. It's a different story for Avon, though, as they've been averaging only 56.4 points per game. The only thing between Decatur Central and another offensive beatdown is Avon. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Decatur Central suffered a grim 75-54 defeat to Avon when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Decatur Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
