Portage has been on the road for two straight, but on Wednesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the West Shamokin Wolves at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Thursday, Portage lost to River Valley on the road by a decisive 59-43 margin. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Portage has scored all season.
Jenna Burkett put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. She hasn't dropped below 15points for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Chobany, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
West Shamokin suffered their biggest defeat yet this season last Friday. They were dealt a 58-28 loss at the hands of Penns Manor. While losing is never fun, West Shamokin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 462nd, while Penns Manor is ranked 109th).
Portage's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-1. As for West Shamokin, their defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-8.
Everything came up roses for Portage against West Shamokin when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 70-32 victory. With Portage ahead 50-12 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
