Thomas Guenet made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Live Oak is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-7 otherwise. Guenet was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Live Oak got a massive performance out of Jonah Chattha, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Chattha continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Nathan Bergstrom was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Live Oak always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .522. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Willow Glen and Santa Teresa, and Santa Teresa kept the tradition alive. The Rams fell just short of the Saints by a score of 9-8 on Friday.
Willow Glen also got a good showing from Tyson Paganini, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Paganini has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Ray Walsh was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Gavin Holmes also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
The win made it two in a row for Live Oak and bumps their season record up to 7-8. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Willow Glen, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Live Oak has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Willow Glen struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Live Oak couldn't quite get it done against Willow Glen in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Acorns avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
