The Iroquois Chiefs lost against the St. Mary's Lancers back in December of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Iroquois received a tough blow as they fell 61-44 to St. Mary's. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Iroquois in their matchups with St. Mary's: they've now lost three in a row.
Griffin Smith was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds for St. Mary's. The contest was Smith's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Szablewski, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Iroquois' loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for St. Mary's, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Iroquois will challenge Griffith Institute at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Mary's is on the road again on Wednesday and play against St. Francis at 7:00 p.m. on January 3rd. Hopefully St. Francis focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Friday.
