Bishop Union has gone a perfect 10-0 against Desert recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Broncos will look to defend their home field against the Scorpions at 3:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bishop Union has four straight victories, Desert has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Bishop Union was able to grind out a solid win over Rosamond, taking the game 8-3.
Brayden Leeson made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Leeson was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Will Kemp, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Richie Talavera, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Bishop Union kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Desert lost 13-3 to Kern Valley on Tuesday.
Desert saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Terndrup, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Bishop Union's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Desert, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Bishop Union has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .495. However, it's not like Desert struggles in that department as they've averaged .520. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bishop Union took their victory against Desert when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 14-3 score. Do the Broncos have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Scorpions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
