Mount Miguel is 9-1 against Monte Vista since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Mount Miguel Matadors will head out on the road to challenge the Monte Vista Monarchs at 5:30 p.m. Mount Miguel is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
Last Wednesday, Mount Miguel strolled past Liberty Charter with points to spare, taking the game 32-13. The win was just what Mount Miguel needed coming off of a 76-28 defeat in their prior match.
Mount Miguel found their leader in underclassman Jaylene Hughes, who scored 30 points along with five rebounds. That makes it 22 consecutive games in which Hughes has scored at least a third of Mount Miguel's points.
Meanwhile, Monte Vista's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 54-35 to El Capitan. While losing is never fun, Monte Vista can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 761st, while El Capitan is ranked 346th).
Mount Miguel's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-19. As for Monte Vista, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.
Mount Miguel suffered a grim 63-39 defeat to Monte Vista when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can Mount Miguel avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
