Baseball Game Preview: University Red Devils vs. Marin Academy Wildcats

For the second straight game, University will face off against Marin Academy. The Red Devils will venture away from home to square off against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (University has seven straight wins, Marin Academy has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

University is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Marin Academy 22-4 on Tuesday. The Red Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Marco Parcella and Leo Felder were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Parcella tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Felder struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Parcella has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Parcella scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Felder got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Felder a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jett Messenger was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Nobu Cabrera, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.

University hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five strikeouts batters every time they've taken the field this season.

University pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Marin Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Marin Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: University hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .434.
