Marcellus extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 4-13. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Skaneateles Lakers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-2 back in April.
Marcellus saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Mattison, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Nicholas Snyder also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Skaneateles, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-7. Nine seems to be a good number for them as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
On Skaneateles' side, Declan Pfau made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Pfau has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Landon Estes looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Cody Crane, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Shea Musso, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Looking ahead, Marcellus will welcome Chittenango at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Skaneateles, they will head out on the road to face off against Mexico at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Lakers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
