The New London Whalers's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Norwich Free Academy Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. One thing working in New London's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 11 games.
In what's become a running theme this season, New London gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Windham with a sharp 77-55 victory. Given New London's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Whippets are ranked 76th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Devan Williams was his usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with four steals. He has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Savahn Warren, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Norwich Free Academy entered their tilt with the Colonels with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Norwich Free Academy came out on top against the Colonels by a score of 69-60 on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
New London pushed their record up to 12-3 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 81.8 points per game. As for Norwich Free Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season.
New London was able to grind out a solid victory over the Wildcats in their previous matchup back in January, winning 71-58. Does New London have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
