Belpre extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-15. They lost 11-1 to the Frontier Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 29-3 back in April.
Belpre saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was AJ Copen, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Frontier, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.
On Frontier's side, Brayden Powers made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. What's more, Powers posted three strikeouts, the most he's had over his last three contests. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Frontier is 4-1 when Powers posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Ruble, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ethan Rinard, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Belpre will face off against Alexander at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Frontier, they will take on Caldwell at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Redskins' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
