Softball Recap: Southern Valley/Alma Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Southern Valley/Alma's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They put the hurt on the Gothenburg Swedes with a sharp 12-3 victory. This was a revenge game for Southern Valley/Alma: when they faced off against Gothenburg last Saturday, they had to take a 9-8 loss.

Kaitlyn Bradley and Hayden Deyle did most of the damage at the plate: Bradley went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI, while Deyle got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those stolen bases marked the first that Deyle has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Alexa Miller, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Southern Valley/Alma hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters every time they've taken the field this season.

Southern Valley/Alma's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-4. As for Gothenburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 2-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Southern Valley/Alma will take on rival Kearney Catholic at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The matchup will give Southern Valley/Alma their first taste of in-conference action this season. Meanwhile, Gothenburg is set to challenge their familiar foe Ord at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
