Northgate has gone a perfect 3-0 against Lovejoy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Vikings are taking a road trip to challenge the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. Northgate is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Northgate is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering East Coweta just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They lost 8-0 to the Indians. Considering the last time the Vikings couldn't score was back in August, the team can't take the result too hard.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lovejoy). They blew past Banneker 25-8 on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won four in a row.
Taylin Freeman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kerri McGhee was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with six stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kennedi Harley, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with six stolen bases and three runs.
Lovejoy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .837. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Northgate's loss dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Lovejoy, their record now sits at 8-6.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Northgate hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Lovejoy struggles in that department as they've averaged .376. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Northgate's way against Lovejoy in their previous meeting on September 4th, as Northgate made off with a 16-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
