It was a good run, but the Chula Vista Spartans unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Victory Christian Academy on the road and fell 61-23. Chula Vista has struggled against Victory Christian Academy recently, as their game on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Chula Vista's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Malissa Mckoy, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds, and Karla Lozano who scored four points. That was a full 39.1% of Chula Vista's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Chula Vista smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Victory Christian Academy only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Victory Christian Academy found their leader in underclassman Mai'ana Norita, who scored 20 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Norita hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Abella, who scored 14 points along with five assists.
Chula Vista now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Victory Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 9-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chula Vista will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against San Ysidro at 6:30 p.m. on January 12th. San Ysidro is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Victory Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Pacifica at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Pacifica will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 700th, while Victory Christian Academy is ranked 206th).
