The Soquel Knights are taking a road trip to take on the Scotts Valley Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Soquel's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Scotts Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Soquel will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating Aptos, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Soquel had just enough and edged out Aptos 6-5 on Friday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last three times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Jake Escalante was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Escalante wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Enzo Goff, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, Goff posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another was Sam Whelan, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Scotts Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 14-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of Palma.
Kit Deforest was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Nick Acton also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Soquel's record is now 11-1. As for Scotts Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Soquel has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Scotts Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Soquel might still be hurting after the 13-0 defeat they got from Scotts Valley in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Soquel avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
