The Cathedral Catholic Dons will head out on the road to challenge the Helix Highlanders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Cathedral Catholic lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Granite Hills, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. The Dons were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Eagles on Friday. That looming 12-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Dons yet this season.
Kaden Kuhn got the start for Cathedral Catholic and what a start it was: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Kuhn has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. Cody Reynolds relieved him and did a solid job, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Cathedral Catholic got a massive performance out of Jonas Nalu, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave Nalu a new career-high. Trey Kotsay was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Cathedral Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Helix entered their tilt with Point Loma on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Pointers by a score of 10-5.
Elijah Martinez looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
Cathedral Catholic's record now sits at 5-0. As for Helix, their record is now 4-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Cathedral Catholic has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Helix struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cathedral Catholic beat Helix 8-5 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
