Eastside is 0-10 against Highland since November of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Eastside Lions will be home for the holidays to greet the Highland Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Eastside waltzed into their matchup Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 73-17 win over Littlerock. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-7.
Eastside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aprill Medrano, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominique Burnett, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Highland earned a 57-44 win over Quartz Hill on Thursday. Given Highland's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Quartz Hill is ranked 773rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eastside is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Highland, their win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-3.
Eastside was dealt a bruising 66-36 defeat at the hands of Highland when the teams last played back in January. Can Eastside avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
