The Rocket City Falcons struggled with threes on Monday (the Cornerstone Christian Eagles had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. The matchup between the two teams wasn't particularly close, with Rocket City falling 56-41. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for them in their matchups with Cornerstone Christian: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Rocket City still got an impressive performance from MacKenzie Baker, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals. That was a full 48.8% of Rocket City's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Allegra Borchers, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.
Cornerstone Christian found their leader in underclassman Tamia Ballard, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Ballard is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Evie Reed was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Rocket City's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-3. As for Cornerstone Christian, they pushed their record up to 12-2 with that win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.
Rocket City will take on Bluegrass at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Cornerstone Christian will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Providence Classical at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Providence Classical will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while Cornerstone Christian is ranked 58th).
