Hazleton Area is 8-2 against Wyoming Valley West since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Hazleton Area Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wyoming Valley West Spartans at 7:15 p.m. Hazleton Area will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
Hazleton Area can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent match on Thursday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 64-35 victory over Wilkes-Barre. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 46-21.
Hazleton Area relied on the efforts of Kaitlyn Bindas, who scored 16 points along with three steals, and Kayla Lagowy, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and six steals. Lagowy also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Alexis Reimold, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wyoming Valley West's 9-4 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 55-45 loss to Dallas. Wyoming Valley West has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hazleton Area pushed their record up to 12-1 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Wyoming Valley West, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Hazleton Area came out on top in a nail-biter against Wyoming Valley West in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, sneaking past 62-59. Will Hazleton Area repeat their success, or does Wyoming Valley West have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
