It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Gary West Side Cougars can now relate to. They were beaten by the Indians 73-8 on Friday. Gary West Side has not had much luck with the Indians recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lake Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kennedie Burks, who scored 17 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Burks has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Vanessa Wimberly, who scored eight points along with five assists and five steals.
Gary West Side has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season. As for Lake Central, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 22-4.
Gary West Side does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lake Central won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Merrillville is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
