The Sutter Huskies will face off against the Hilltop Lancers at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Sutter comes in on six and Hilltop on five.
While Sutter's win against Casa Roble wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Huskies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over the Rams on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Huskies have posted against the Rams since April 2, 2024.
Sullivan Pardee looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
On the hitting side, Landyn Singh was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Karter Johnson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run.
Sutter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Casa Roble only posted an OBP of .371.
Meanwhile, while Hilltop put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Hoover. The Lancers were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Cardinals. With that victory, the Lancers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Aiden Arce was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hilltop is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Arce was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Victor Moreno and Jared Aguirre Pena did most of the damage at the plate: Moreno went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Aguirre Pena went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Alexandro Cardenas was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
The win got Hilltop back to even at 5-5. As for Sutter, their record now sits at 9-3.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sutter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Hilltop struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
