The Pioneer Panthers are taking a road trip to challenge the Culver Academies Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pioneer has given up an average of 10.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Pioneer came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Bremen, falling 13-4. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Pioneer saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Scott, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Culver Academies duked it out with North Judson-San Pierre on Wednesday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Bluejays. The Eagles not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25th (when they won 13-3).
Culver Academies also got a great performance from Jak Chaney as he struck out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave Chaney a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Jack Kaplan and Cole Meiser did most of the damage at the plate: Kaplan went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Meiser went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Meiser is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Sam Grundberg was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Culver Academies was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Pioneer's loss dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Culver Academies, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.
Pioneer suffered a grim 18-8 defeat to Culver Academies in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
