There's no place like home for the Great Oak Wolfpack, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They secured a 61-57 W over Vista Murrieta on Wednesday. Given Great Oak's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 192nd, while Vista Murrieta is ranked 418th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Bri Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two blocks for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Fuson, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Despite the loss, Vista Murrieta still got an impressive performance from Kohen Marshall, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Nyah Brown, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Vista Murrieta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Great Oak only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Great Oak's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Vista Murrieta, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-16.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Great Oak will take on Chaparral at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Averaging 54.38 points so far this season, Great Oak's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Chaparral better be ready for a challenge. As for Vista Murrieta, they will be playing at home against Murrieta Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Murrieta Valley is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.
