The Gilbert Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 23 points or more this season. They took their matchup at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 77-24 victory over Desert Edge. Given Gilbert's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while Desert Edge is ranked 110th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Morgan Evenson was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Caia Campbell, who scored 12 points along with five assists and three steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Gilbert and bumps their season record up to 12-1. As for Desert Edge, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.
Gilbert will play host again and welcome Catalina Foothills, where tip off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Catalina Foothills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday. Desert Edge and Mica Mountain will face off at 3:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Mica Mountain is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.2 points per game.
