James Lick is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 21 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Mt. Pleasant on Thursday. They lost 8-2 to the Cardinals. The Comets have struggled against the Cardinals recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
James Lick saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eduardo Polanco, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask San Jose). They were the clear victors by a 20-10 margin over Independence on Thursday. With that victory, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Krish Dilidili was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Julian Soliz was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.
San Jose's win bumped their record up to 6-13. As for James Lick, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
San Jose's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: James Lick hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. It's a different story for San Jose, though, as they've only averaged .217. Will they be able to contain James Lick's hitters?
James Lick came out on top in a nail-biter against San Jose in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 11-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
