Johnson is a perfect 10-0 against Valley since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Warriors will head out to take on the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Johnson has given up an average of 13.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Johnson came up short against Fairfield on Thursday, falling 19-1. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Valley hadn't beaten Florin on the road since April 29, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Panthers. With that win, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Erick Velasquez and Jayy Frisk made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Velasquez struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. Meanwhile, Frisk tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Velasquez a new career-high. At bat, Velasquez went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Frisk went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Valley is undefeated when Frisk posts two or more runs, but 2-10 otherwise.
In other batting news, Valley let Carmine Bermudez and Giovanni Carmona run wild. Bermudez went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, five runs, and two RBI, while Carmona got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Bermudez has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Josh Brown, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI.
Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They are 6-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Johnson's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Valley, their record now sits at 7-10.
Johnson took their victory against Valley in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 20-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
