Roosevelt extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping them up to 5-1. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 12-11 W against the Rifle Bears. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Roughriders have posted since September 28, 2024.
Kenzie Maddox made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Those hits were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Roz Muguerza was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Jaidyn Jones also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Roosevelt kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matches dating back to last season.
As for Rifle, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs.
On Rifle's side, Gia Keithley put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Keithley was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ella Jackson and Olivia Gordon stepped up to the plate in a big way. Jackson went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Gordon went 2-for-4 with four RBI. Another player making a difference was Rylan Petree, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, Roosevelt will take on Mead in a tournament on Saturday. As for Rifle, they will be taking part in a tournament against Prairie View at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Thunderhawks have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
