Holy Cross has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Math Civics & Sciences Mighty Elephants in a holiday battle at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Holy Cross has not done well against Bishop Loughlin recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Sunday. Holy Cross sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-55 win over Bishop Loughlin. The win was just what Holy Cross needed coming off of a 76-39 loss in their prior matchup.
Holy Cross' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jacob Moreno led the charge by scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. The match was Moreno's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Dylan Stanley, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Math Civics & Sciences scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Abraham Lincoln by a score of 90-78. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Math Civics & Sciences to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sair Alsbrooks, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Alsbrooks has scored at least 25% of Math Civics & Sciences' points. Azeem Murphy was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Holy Cross' record is now 1-3. As for Math Civics & Sciences, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Saturday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Holy Cross have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 22 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Math Civics & Sciences, though, as they've been averaging only 30.8 rebounds per game. Given Holy Cross' sizeable advantage in that area, Math Civics & Sciences will need to find a way to close that gap.
