Dougherty Valley is 2-8 against Monte Vista since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Wildcats will face off against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Dougherty Valley took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Livermore 4-3.

Pratik Suravarapu tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
At the plate, Dougherty Valley's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kingston Salinas, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Mikey Wong also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Monte Vista waltzed into their game on Friday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They came out on top against the Grizzlies by a score of 6-1. The game was the first time the Mustangs have beaten the Grizzlies on their field since April 25, 2022.
Gavin McMillan and Anson Liptak dominated on the mound. McMillan tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits, while Liptak pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. McMillan has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Torin Dunphy was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Tony Keeling was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Monte Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as California only posted a batting average of .130.
Dougherty Valley's record now sits at 5-16. As for Monte Vista, their record is now 16-6.
Dougherty Valley suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Monte Vista when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
