Even though the Foothills Christian Knights scored an imposing 60 points on Saturday, the Morse Tigers still came out on top. Morse narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Foothills Christian 63-60.
Morse was led to victory by Maleek Robinson and Barron Bilog. Robinson scored 17 points, while Bilog scored 21 points. Jonathan Smith was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Foothills Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Edgar Gonzalez, who scored 16 points along with five assists and three steals. That's the first time this season that Gonzalez scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Andrew Burke, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 17 rebounds.
Morse's victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Foothills Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.
Morse will look to defend their home court on Friday against Kearny at 7:30 p.m. Foothills Christian and La Jolla Country Day will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. La Jolla Country Day will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
