The Venture Academy Mustangs had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Turlock Christian 54-23 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 31-9.
It was another big night for Jz Lawrence, who scored 24 points along with nine steals and five rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Venture Academy's points. Kimora Crawford was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Turlock Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Faith Hayes. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That was a full 34.8% of Turlock Christian's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christiana Eivaz, who scored eight points.
The win got Venture Academy back to even at 9-9. As for Turlock Christian, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-16.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Stone Ridge Christian the next time they take the court. Venture Academy will head out to face Stone Ridge Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Turlock Christian will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
