Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding
performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close
out the 2025-26 season by naming the top player in each state.
Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in
addition to local and state accolades.
Luke Ertel of
Mt. Vernon (Fortville) is the 2025-26 MaxPreps Indiana High School Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-1 senior guard led the Marauders to a 29-3 record and their first state championship in program history.
For the season, Ertel averaged 24.5 points, 9.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game while shooting 47.9 percent from the field, 39.8 percent from 3-point range and 88.6 percent from the free throw line.
