Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding
performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close
out the 2025-26 season by naming the top player in each state.
Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in
addition to local and state accolades.
Eli Sancomb of
Wheeling Central Catholic (Wheeling) is the 2025-26 MaxPreps West Virginia High School Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-5 senior guard led the Maroon Knights to a 23-0 record and their second consecutive state championship.
For the season, Sancomb averaged 31.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 3.0 steals per game.
In a 55-39 victory over Wyoming East (New Richmond) in the Class AA state championship game, Sancomb led the way with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
