Corbin Martin homered for Cypress Ranch against A&M Consolidated.

If either Martin (Arlington) or Carroll (Corpus Christi) were going to have a shot at unseating Bishop Gorman for the No. 1 spot in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Baseball Rankings, they would have needed impressive wins in the Texas 5A state tournament.
Cypress Ranch (Houston) and A&M Consolidated (College Station) had other plans.
Cypress Ranch knocked off Martin 6-0 in one semifinal matchup while A&M Consolidated bounced Carroll 2-1 in the other semifinal tussle. Cypress Ranch then won the championship game 4-1 to claim the title of Texas 5A champions.
The loss dropped Martin from No. 4 to No. 13 while Carroll dropped all the way from No. 2 to No. 24. Cypress Ranch moved up to 12 while A&M Consolidated settled in at No. 23.
The losses by Carroll and Martin virtually assure that Bishop Gorman will finish the season ranked No. 1 overall in the Xcellent 25. Only Lake Central (St. John, Ind.), ranked No. 25, is still active among the Xcellent 25, as it will play in the Indiana Class 4A state championship this week.
The final MaxPreps Xcellent 25 rankings will come out June 26.
