The Torreys opened the season with 16 straight wins before a 45-39 defeat to Long Beach Poly in the finals fo the Southern California Holiday Prep Classic on Dec. 30.
But La Lolla Country Day, the nation's No. 1 team, have responded with great force since then, winning over Centennial (Las Vegas) 70-42, Bishop's (La Jolla) 92-38 and Francis Parker (San Diego), 88-29, to improve to 19-1.
The Torreys are the No. 1 team in the latest MaxPreps California Top 25 computer rankings, followed by Mater Dei (Santa Ana) at 18-2, Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) at 16-3, Etiwanda at 14-3 and Archbishop Mitty (San Jose), at 12-3.
