Mt. Lebanon (Pittsburgh), which was the top-ranked team in the
MaxPreps Pennsylvania boys’ basketball rankings, lost 54-51 to Upper St. Clair Tuesday night.
The
Blue Devils' loss is their second on the season and drops them to 12-2.
The other six teams ranked in the Pennsylvania Top 25 from the WPIAL
were all victorious Tuesday including No. 3
Shaler Area (Pittsburgh) topping Pine-Richland
56-43 and No. 8
North Allegheny (Wexford) beating North Hills 70-44.
HOOHULI MISSES GAME THEN EXPLODES FOR 85 POINTS IN TWO CONTESTS

Kayla Hoohuli, who is headed to Canisius
next season, was forced to miss a game against DuBois last week because
of a head injury, and the Lady Dutch lost their first game of the season
62-40 to the Lady Beavers.
Hoohuli returned to the court with a vengeance and has scored 85 points in two games since missing the DuBois game Jan. 11.
She
had 39 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in a 58-50 win over rival
Elk County Catholic Saturday and then added 46 points and 10 steals in a
57-48 win over Punxsutawney Monday.
The 46 points tie for the
second-most in her career behind the 52 she had in the state playoffs
against Hampton last March. It marked the seventh time in her career she
has topped 40 points in a game and the 31st time she has
gone over 30 points in a contest including eight times this season in 12
games.
Hoohuli is averaging 29.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, six assists and
8.4 steals per game this season for the 12-1 Lady Dutch.
BURRELL WRESTLING CONTINUES TO DOMINATE
The
Burrell (Lower Burrell) wrestling team, ranked second in the state by the National
Collegiate Wrestling Association, continues to dominate, racking up a 5-0
record over the weekend at the prestigious Brookville Duals that
included defending state champion Fort LeBoeuf.
The
Buccaneers topped Fort LeBoeuf 46-22 and also beat state powerhouse
Reynolds 39-31, ending the Raiders' 33-match dual winning streak.
Five
Burrell wrestlers are ranked No. 1 at their respective weight classes
in the WPIAL Class AA including 160-pounder Travis McKillop, who is 22-1
and has committed to NCAA Division II powerhouse Pitt-Johnstown.
McKillop finished fifth at the PIAA Class AA championships at 152 pounds
last season.
Also
ranked No. 1 are senior Dave Makara (11-3) at 130 pounds, sophomore
Dakota DesLauriers (18-3) at 171 pounds, senior Jay Taylor (18-4) at 189
pounds and senior Brian Beattie (18-4) at 215 pounds. Also, senior
Jeremy Landowski (10-2) is the No. 2 ranked WPIAL wrestler at 135
pounds.
